One of the things we love about boutique shopping is the opportunity to actually meet the brains (and beauty) behind the operation. We took 5 minutes to ask Seraphic’s lovely owner, Anjali Mahtani, five questions about style, fashion and of course, her amazing boutique Seraphic, located at 555 Queen Street West. You’ll get the chance to meet Anjali in person on May 6th when we launch Shopping After Dark at Seraphic!
Q: What’s in a name? How’d you come up with “Seraphic”?
A: I wanted something abstract but with a meaning, something that would have to be explained yet be memorable. Seraphic (pronounced “Sir-ah-fic”) means three winged angel. Also, I come from a family of entrepreneurs and business owners and all of our business names relate to our actual name. My name sounds a bit like angel so it sort of fits.
Q: What kind of clientele does Seraphic cater to?
A: Of course we cater to the trendy Queen West crowd but there’s sort of something for everyone. We have a lot of moms come in with their daughters who are surprised that they can find something for themselves too. We try to have great styles, good quality and reasonable prices for everyone.
Q: What are your favourite trends this season?
A: I love ruffles and burnout tees are sort of a staple for casual dressing. Florals are also really key and of course, graphic prints.
Q: Who’s your style icon?
A: I’m not sure about an ‘icon’ but I really love Nicole Richie’s style, how it’s evolved today. She’s got a casual, boho vibe but is really elegant.
Q: What’s your favourite piece in-store today?
A: This beautiful printed dress that drapes really well and has a gorgeous shape. You can wear it all summer plus take it into the fall with an opaque tight.
