Business Development Associates

Overview: The Business Development Associate generates sales for Shop Socials by presenting promotion, advertising, sponsorship and vendor opportunities to fashion, beauty and lifestyle businesses who seek to reach Shop Socials “everyday socialite” demographic. Positions are available for East GTA, downtown Toronto, West GTA territories. Business Development Associates are contract employees setting their own hours of work, and work virtually from their own workspace.

The ideal candidate is:

  • A college or university graduate with a sales, marketing or public relations background with at least 3 years experience in a sales environment.
  • An excellent communicator
  • Persuasive and confident in pitching new concepts and closing sales
  • Well-connected in the fashion / beauty / lifestyle industries or eager to make those connections
  • Comfortable using web-based software and communication tools
  • Highly organized
  • Seeking supplementary income streams, but not primary employment

Responsibilities

  1. Present Shop Socials opportunities to potential clients
  2. Follow-up and close sales
  3. Maintain a database of clients and new leads
  4. Meet expected sales targets per project

Compensation

This is a contract position with an attractive commission-based pay structure that varies by project / program.

Marketing Communications Intern

Overview: The Marketing Communications Intern works directly with the President and provides support with internal and external communications efforts related to operations, sales, marketing and public relations. The position is unpaid with an expectation of 15 – 20 work hours per week maximum. The selected candidate will work virtually  from their own workspace with mid-week  check-ins and weekly meetings.

The ideal candidate is:

  • A college or university student with a background in marketing, public relations, or communications with a keen interest in women’s fashion, beauty and lifestyle brands.
  • A self-starter who works well independently without constant supervision
  • Armed with strong writing skills
  • Outgoing and well-spoken
  • Familiar using web-based communications tools (i.e. blogger, MailChimp, Hootsuite)
  • A quick-learner, extremely organized and very conscientious
  • Not afraid to ask questions or for help
  • Able to supply his or her own laptop and access to the internet to complete work assigned.

The successful candidate will be supported with a clear work plan that allows them to learn and hone marketing communication skills including:

  1. Maintaining a company blog
  2. Developing and deploying social media strategies
  3. Writing press releases
  4. Developing and maintaining contact databases
  5. Deploying marketing initiatives (both direct / indirect)
  6. Creating internal / external communications (i.e. emails, procedures, proposals)
  7. Creating customer marketing collateral

Compensation: This is an unpaid internship. The successful candidate will receive a written letter of recommendation as well as permission to include some work generated as portfolio samples along with hands-on experience developing marketing communications in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.

Special Events Intern

Overview: The Special Events Intern reports directly to the President and provides support with event execution. The position is unpaid with an expectation of 15 – 20 work hours per week maximum. The selected candidate will work virtually from their own workspace with mid-week check-ins and weekly meetings

The ideal candidate is:

  • A college or university student or recent graduate seeking event experience and looking for opportunities to build their portfolio
  • A self-starter who works well independently without constant supervision
  • Skilled at internet research
  • Highly creative and extremely organized
  • Willing to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings
  • Familiar with spreadsheet software (Excel or Numbers)
  • Comfortable learning web-based software
  • Outgoing and well-spoken
  • A quick-learner, extremely organized and very conscientious
  • Not afraid to ask questions or for help.
  • Able to supply his or her own laptop or computer and access to the internet to complete work assigned.

The successful candidate will be supported with a clear work plan that allows them to learn and hone event coordination and planning skills including:

  1. Developing and managing event timing documents
  2. Writing event proposals
  3. Event coordination
  4. Event marketing / promotion
  5. On-site event experience
  6. Working with suppliers / vendors

Compensation: This is an unpaid internship. The successful candidate will receive a written letter of recommendation as well as permission to include some work generated as portfolio samples along with hands-on experience coordinating and executing a variety of events in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.
